I know we are all starting to feel like museum pieces but we have a heritage to look after! Thanks to Barbara Elsmore here are two archive lists of the items held at the Sherborne Museum. Some really interesting stuff there.

For those who were at Foster’s between 1957 and the mid 1970s – my father John Norfolk, who taught geography, sadly died on 17 May at home with us at the ripe age of 98. Memorial service at St.Mary’s Charlton Kings, Gloucestershire on 28 June at 2.30pm. Any Old Fosterian who would care to make the journey would be very welcome!
A well respected member of the staff at Fosters, who lived an exciting life. His wise comments during meetings are still remembered ..A privilege to have known him. Last met at his 90th birthday. Mike Goode. (President OFA.)
That is sad news, but what an innings! A privilege to have been taught by him, such a lovely man, a great teacher and very wise.
Hello David,
Sincere condolances on the death of your father. I was at Fosters from 1955-1961 and knew him well. It was and is, as already posted by Mike et. al., a privilige to have known him.
RC
Thank you for your kind comment – it is much appreciated!
David
Very much enjoyed Mr N’s lessons, always full of witty asides and anecdotes. Sad to learn of his passing.
Thank you Stephen – it is good to hear of how positively he related to his pupils
Dear David, Hope it is not too late to send our condolences. Your fathers lessons were always greatly enjoyed by my 2 elder brothers and myself. Personally, he made all-things-geographical so interesting that the interest has stuck with me all these years. If I remember well, he was also a good shot with a piece of chalk. Ouch! Nik H
Thanks to you too Nik! I am sure he would have been a good shot with the chalk, though I hadn’t noticed any love for corporal punishment at least as far as we children were concerned. Far more effective was his tongue! – David
Hi David,
Just found this site, but will now keep coming back.
Your Father was a very informative man & always made geography lessons interesting. He tought me during 1974 & 1975, & possible 1976.
He will be sadly missed, but a great teacher & a gentleman.
Regards, Julian Fricker ( Fosters school 1974-1979)
Dear David. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your father. We always exchanged Christmas cards and I was going to have to tell him this year of the death of my sister Marion Inglis back in March. Several Lord Digby Old Girls attended her funeral and helped to host a ceremony in Sherborne which was lovely. I hope this reaches you and please pass on my best wishes to everyone especially Judith. I am on Facebook if she wants to get in touch?
Hi Anne just looking Iam delighted to find some one I know I am Jennifer pert formerly Evans
Anyone remember Anne Snoddon, trying to find all her friends, this is her sister Sally. We had the garage over the road, Anne is not quite computer perfec
t so I am trying to find people, especially Pauline Quirk
Hi Sally,
Just discovered this website – didn’t know it existed – and seen this comment about Anne. Yes, I was at school with Anne and she came to our “we’re all 60” reunion 4 years ago at the Eastbury Hotel in Sherborne, so she should have all our email addresses. I remember Pauline Quirk from Sherborne Primary School and, in fact, did have some contact with her when she was on Friends Reunited. Any contact details I had went when Friends Reunited folded, so sorry I can’t help you further. If you can find any links with Sherborne Primary School, Harbour Road, then you may find her through that. She had ginger hair!
Love to Anne when you’re in touch – if she remembers me. I was Jen Childs (now Gomm).
This is a query about my grandmother’s brothers who, I’m given to believe, may have attended Fosters round about 1890 to 1900 or so. Their names were Stubbings, their father was a bootmaker in the town and their mother taught music at Sherborne Girls School.
Hi Hilary
I don’t know if anyone replied to you; all the attendance records are now held by Sherborne Museum. There is a good chance they did attend Fosters from what you say. The curator’s name is Eizabeth and she can be contacted on info@sherbornemuseum.co.uk.
My husband is an Old Boy of Fosters School and would be interested in receiving a copy of your magazine and any other interesting information concerning the OLD FOSTERIANS. His name is David John Orr circa 1945. Please advise.
