Sherborne Museum : Looking Back at Foster’s School

From Barbara Elsmore of the Sherborne museum:

Booklet: When the Sherborne Museum exhibition ‘Looking Back at Foster’s School’ was being planned for 2013 Ken House suggested that it would be good to have a booklet of some sort to accompany it. As I had started to collect memories from some of the old boys of the school we decided to begin with these and add to them throughout the time the exhibition was running and the resulting booklet contains twelve accounts contributed by former pupils ranging from the 1880s to the 1970s. In addition to these accounts you will find information on the history of the school. It was a very enjoyable experience for me to put this collection together and I hope that you too will enjoy reading through the accounts.

Talk: January 2016 – I have prepared a talk as part of the Sherborne Museum series of Winter talks, entitled ‘Looking Back at Foster’s School – a Personal View’. I hope to tell of my own connection to the school, as my father and grandfather were former pupils, and how I then came to assist Ken House and John House with the opening up of the Foster’s School archive in 2012 where we discovered the many photographs and items that were donated to the museum when the school closed in 1992. I hope to be abled to enlarge on this experience by sharing some of these interesting items and re-meet some of the people who were involved with the school over the years. The talk will include many old photographs and will be for museum members only but, should there be sufficient interest, I hope to give it again at sometime in the future. Barbara Elsmore
